SEPA releases latest recycling figures
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) today (Thursday 17 November at 5pm), publishes the latest figures on Scotland's recycling efforts.
· The latest quarterly municipal waste statistics return is for April - June 2005 and indicates a recycling/composting figure of 23.9%
· The rolling figure for the last twelve months up to June 2005 is 19.2%
Rolling year data is the best means of yearly data comparison as this eliminates seasonal factors.
SEPA's Waste Strategy Manager John Ferguson said:
"People genuinely want to reduce, re-use and recycle more and these latest figures show a very positive trend. It's good to see that all the effort being made by individuals, organisations and the Scottish Executive is continuing to pay off for our environment. We are all responsible for maintaining this momentum and SEPA encourages everyone to reduce the waste they produce and use recycling services available to them."
